About the Project

The Hillsborough River: Human Connections combines a growing digital archive with a series of interactive events running October 22 – November 7. The Humanities Institute at the University of South Florida will conduct a series of lectures, exhibits, and outdoor activities designed to highlight how humans and the Hillsborough River interact and shape each other. From prehistoric times to present day, the river impacts the history, art, literature, architecture, and economy of the Tampa Bay region.

We invite you to explore the wealth of information contained on this website. We’re always discovering new content and welcome contributions from community members. If you have photos, articles, postcards, or would like to be interviewed about your experience with the river just click on the “Contribute Content” link. Read our complete project overview and explore the history of the river.

This is just one initiative managed by the Humanities Institute. Learn about our other projects—events focusing on local history, popular culture, global identities, morality and ethics, and poetry just to name a few. Our events are always free and open to the public!
